Psychobiological control of eating behaviour
Eating behaviour is determined by a complex psychobiological system, which calls for a high level of integration of information from multiple sources to work smoothly. These sources of information arise both inside the body and in the environment in which it finds itself. Eating behaviour includes the actual act of eating, the motivations that accompany the consumption of food, peripheral physiological and metabolic processes, pathways and receptors in the brain and their interactions with nutritional parameters. Figure 2 illustrates the interaction of the various factors that determine eating behaviour.
